NCER Lunch, October 3rd : Mary Beth Thomas, “Impact through Collaboration: Lessons from NCBiotech” (NC Executive Roundtable)
Our guest speaker is Mary Beth Thomas, Ph.D., NC Biotech Center, “Impact through Collaboration: Lessons from NCBiotech”

The North Carolina Biotechnology Center (NCBiotech) has a 40 plus year history of growing the life sciences sector for the state of North Carolina. This dynamic sector is an important part of NC’s economic success with growing companies offering good jobs and careers to NC citizens. But as a smallish, non-profit organization, NCBiotech does not do this alone because we cannot do it alone. Collaboration is an essential part of how we work to make big things happen.
Mary Beth’s Bio:
As senior vice president, she is responsible for NCBiotech’s teams that accelerate translation and commercialization of life science technologies in NC. Those teams include Science and Technology Development, which oversees grants programs; Emerging Company Development, which oversees small business loan programs, and Business Intelligence and Analytics, which provides unique market research and business intelligence services to support NC’s life sciences businesses.
Mary Beth also co-leads NCBiotech’s Focused Initiatives Team (FIT). FIT works to identify and prioritize emerging opportunities that leverage assets and resources to deliver high impact solutions for NC.
Mary Beth earned a BS degree in biotechnology at the Rochester Institute of Technology (New York), a doctorate in developmental biology from the University of Cincinnati and served as a postdoctoral fellow with the Department of Neurobiology at Duke University.
