AI, Data Centers, and the Energy Landscape (Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster)

AI, Data Centers, and the Energy Landscape (Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster)

The growth of artificial intelligence (AI) and data centers is reshaping the energy landscape. While these technologies offer numerous benefits, their electricity demands are substantial. A December 2024 report from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory found that data centers consumed about 4.4% of total U.S. electricity in 2023 and are expected to consume approximately 6.7 to 12% of total U.S. electricity by 2028.

Our panel will delve into the intersection of AI, data centers, and energy demand. We will focus on the opportunities that enhanced data analytics and associated technologies can provide, the unique challenges this growth can present for energy infrastructure, and the role collaboration can play in maximizing potential benefits for North Carolina.

Speakers include:
  1. Alex Boakye – Vice President of Solutions Development, SAS
  2. Paul Quinlan – Director of Energy Research, ScottMadden
