Some of the feedback from previous Magnet events:

“The best, consistent, well run networking event in the Triangle. Hands down.”

“The format of this event was fun and efficient. In the course of about an hour, I had meaningful conversations with about 12 people. I received valuable advice and felt that I helped spark some ideas for others.”

“Brilliantly devised. 10/10.”

“Where has this been my whole life?”

“Best networking event I’ve ever been to!”

Here’s how it works.

In the lobby, you will check in. You will be given a nametag and a piece of paper, both numbered. Whomever is first to arrive will be #1, and so on.

1. Write Your Ask:
On a sheet of paper, handwrite your ask and first name, then tape it to the wall.

  • Best asks invite help: “What tips do you have for a DIY podcast setup?”
  • Less effective asks focus on selling: “Does anyone need graphic design? Instead, try: “What digital marketing tips do you have to help grow my graphic design business?”

Tip: The most engaging asks are specific questions that tap into the group’s knowledge or networks—whether personal or professional. Think of it as giving others a chance to share their genius and connections.

Important: This group isn’t focused on career transitions/job seekers but on supporting professionals in B2B-related businesses. If you’re job-seeking, frame your ask in a way that invites advice or connections, rather than directly asking for a job.

(And don’t worry—your skills still shine! List them in the “skills” section so people know your expertise, even if your ask isn’t directly related.)

2. Label Yourself:
Grab a nametag and write your name and your sheet’s number.

3. Offer Help:
Read the posted asks and place sticky notes (with your first name and number) on at least three where you can help or know someone who can. (Example: Sarah #13)

4. Make Connections:
Find those who can help you and those you can help. It’s simple—and there’s plenty of support in the room!

Last bit of advice…don’t over think your ask! At the end of the day, they are just conversation starters. And go at it from a place of helping others first to get the most out of the experience.
